Why is this scientist disguised as a giant panda?

"I tell you, I was walking through the bamboo when
I saw - I'm not making this up - a giant furry panda
and this tiny baby panda..."

Because they're afraid the pandas might become too tame if they see humans, research scientists disguise themselves in panda costumes whenever they take their pandas for a medical exam. The scientists at the Wolong panda reserve in Sichuan province in south-west China are raising panda cubs in captivity for eventual release into the wild.

"Come on, little panda, time for your checkup."

This is the kind of thing that would thoroughly
traumatize a baby panda.

  1. The man in giant panda suit made me think of this:

  2. I'd seen that cheese commercial but forgot about it. I wonder if it increased sales, or made people afraid to even approach the product...
